David worked thirty years in sports journalism, beginning at age thirteen as a sportswriter. He spent more than twenty years combined in the national award-winning sports departments of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram and The Dallas Morning News, both of which were annually voted among the nation's top ten sports sections.
At the Star-Telegram – where he was a senior writer and sports humor columnist – his work (Sample 1, Sample 2) was honored nationally by the Associated Press Sports Editors, and he received the McClatchy Company President's Award for excellence in journalism.
During his journalism career, David covered such notable events as Super Bowls, World Series, NBA Finals, an NCAA Final Four, an NHL All-Star Game, PGA Tour tournaments, NASCAR and IndyCar races, and the Breeders' Cup. His biggest sports highlight, however, came in 2016 when, as a member of the Grapevine Faith Christian football coaching staff, he was able to award the state championship gold medal to his son, Tyson, after their team won a Texas state championship in double overtime.
"And I don't think I'll ever have a bigger thrill in sports," David says.
A lifelong Texan and graduate of the University of Texas at Arlington, David lives near Fort Worth with his wife, Sally. They have two children, Ashlin and Tyson.
